Geneva Community Garden Construction Update

Construction progress meeting with city staff and contractor

Thanks to our neighbors for your cooperation and partnership and thanks to those waiting to grow plants or just enjoy the garden for your patience.    The construction of the new Geneva Community Garden has been delayed for various reasons, including those listed below; however, we are excited to report that the garden should be coming to life come 2018.

Reasons for recent delays include:

  • Labor shortage due to other major construction projects including Oroville Dam
  • Delayed delivery of concrete for structural walls and flatwork
  • Coordination with Public Works Bureau of Street Use and Mapping on property line interface
  • Redesign of the garden entrance from Delano Ave to widen sidewalk in order to meet the existing sidewalk north of the garden

Rec and Park’s Community Gardens Program is convening a meeting this week with members of the community who have been assigned to plots in the new garden so that folks can get to know one another and program staff and begin to identify volunteer garden leadership.  We are working to finalize 2018 dates for community garden member work day and grand opening ASAP.  Stay tuned!

For questions regarding construction, please contact Capital Project Manager Melinda Stockmann at melinda.stockmann@sfgov.org.  For questions regarding assignment of plots or operation of garden once open, please contact our Urban Agriculture / Community Gardens Program staff at communitygardens@sfgov.org.

Thanks again for your patience and stay tuned for more updates!
