Thanks to project supporters and neighbors for your patience. We anticipate advertising the Geneva Community Garden construction project to contractors in February 2016 and starting construction by summer 2016 for completion and opening before the end of the year.
Project delay is due mostly to tight funding, which has had us doing several rounds of careful value engineering. Because funding is so tight for this project, we are going to have to bid a handful of items as additive alternates, which means contractors who bid on the project will provide pricing for these items and, depending on how the lowest bid matches up with our cost estimate, we will determine whether we have left over funding for all, some or none of the additive alternate items.
We are striving to include as much infrastructure or “bones of the garden” as possible so that the site reads as a whole and to optimize potential for some of the items that aren’t doable with current funding to be added in the future. We anticipate going to bid by early February and the project going into construction in late spring/early summer. We will be posting an informational banner on the site soon and starting to organize garden plot assignments during construction.
If you are interested in being assigned a plot in the new garden, please send an e-mail to Community Gardens Program Manager Melinda Stockmann at firstname.lastname@example.org. Stay tuned for more updates.
