Golden Gate Park Traffic Safety Improvement Project
Sunday Streets, Golden Gate Park
Sunday, June 11, 2017
JFK Drive at 36th Avenue
11:00am to 4:00pm
Golden Gate Park was identified by Mayor Lee in his August 2016 Executive Directive on Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety as a top priority for improved road safety through expanded traffic calming and traffic restrictions. We are developing a variety of proposals, and wanted to provide some background and offer to meet to discuss further. Potential improvements include:
- additional speed humps and raised crosswalks
- long-term traffic-flow improvements
- installation of safe hit posts
- a one-way traffic-flow conversion pilot
- various other safety upgrades
As a first step in this process, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and the Municipal Transportation Agency partnered to install speed humps on John F. Kennedy Drive west of Transverse to address documented chronic speeding.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department have worked to develop recommendations for additional improvements that achieve our safety goals while best serving the needs of the general public.
We have set our next open house for June 11th in Golden Gate Park during Sunday Streets to hear from the public at large. Please join us for an outdoor open house in the heart of Sunday Streets Golden Gate Park, on JFK Drive at 36th Avenue!
