GGP: Strawberry Hill Butterfly and Trail Project

Mission Blue Butterfly Making a Comeback

If you love your parks, and are looking for a meaningful and substantive way to make a positive difference, come on out and volunteer with the San Francisco Parks Alliance and the Recreation and Park Department!

On the second Saturday of every month, we enhance habitat on Strawberry Hill. We remove invasive weeds, and put in the native plant species that Swallowtails and other butterflies need to thrive! In addition to enhancing habitat, volunteers learn about the natural and cultural history of Strawberry Hill. It’s an inspiring and fun day in a gorgeous setting!

Over subsequent months and into next year, we’ll build on the progress begun at our first work day, maintaining and adding more and more butterfly habitat on the slopes and top of Strawberry Hill. This is an ongoing program – we’re looking for volunteers who can be involved on a long term basis.

Please RSVP to Julia Brashares by the Thursday before each Saturday volunteer workday at julia@sfparksalliance.org or 415.621.3260. (We need to know how many volunteers will participate so we’ll bring enough supplies and tools for everyone.)

All instruction and needed tools are provided. Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and dress in layers as the weather may change quickly. Bring water and a sack lunch. If you’re sensitive to sun, don’t forget your sun block lotion and hat!
