Park Time for you and Your dog
A day at the park can provide some of the best “together†times for you and your dog. The trees, grass and beautiful surroundings are part of what you both love most about San Francisco.
Before you and your dog head for some quality park time, here are some things you need to know:
Dog Arent't Always Allowed
Dogs must be on a leash at all times, in all parks, except in the designated off-leash areas listed.
Dogs off-leash must be under “voice controlâ€. This means the dog must respond immediately and obediently to single commands. Dog owners must carry a leash, and leash the dog immediately if it becomes aggressive toward a person or other animal. In addition, owners should be sure their dog does not dig holes, chase wildlife or destroy vegetation.
Many children and adults are frightened by dogs. Hikers, bicyclists and equestrians may also be disturbed and even endangered by dogs that ate not effectively controlled. Please show respect for other by closely managing your dog. Barking and aggressive dogs are not appreciated in any park area.
There restrictions do not apply to dogs that are especially trained for and used as guide dogs by the visually impaired.
You Must Clean up After Your Dog
The Recreation and Park Department is the steward for many of the public parks in San Francisco. Your cooperation in keeping the parks clean adds to everyone’s enjoyment.
According to the City of San Francisco Municipal Code, it is unlawful to leave refuse of any type in City parks.
Always pick up your dog’s litter!
It is unhealthy, contaminates the environment, and affects the territorial behavior of some wild animals. It is also inconsiderate to your fellow park users!
Carry and adequate container to remove and dispose of your dog’s feces. This is a good use for recycled plastic bags. Doing your part keeps the parks clean and beautiful, just the way we all like them, so that everyone can enjoy a pleasant visit.
