Outdoor Recreation – Youth, Tweens, & Teens – Rock Climbing at Mt. Tam

Get OUT and play! Participate in these active, outdoor programs and learn about the world around you.This trip will meet at one of our recreation centers. From there we will provide transportation to Mt. Tamalpais where we will park and hike into several different rocks with a variety of routs to climb of varying difficulty from beginner to intermediate. We will teach rock climbing safety, language and climbing technique. No experience is necessary although indoor climbing experience is helpful; see Rec and Park Spring Rock Climbing Camps for indoor rock climbing programs. Participants are required to bring water, lunch, snack, & warm clothing, & walking shoes. Forecasted rain will cancel this trip.

Outdoor Recreation – Youth, Tweens, & Teens – Rock Climbing at Cragmount Rock Park

Get OUT and play! Participate in these active, outdoor programs and learn about the world around you.This trip meets at one of our recreation centers where We will provide transportation to Cragmount Rock Park located in the Berkeley Hills. Cragmount has many climbs available for all different skill levels, it is particularly good for beginner and intermediate climbers who learning and expanding their outdoor climbing skills. We will teach rock climbing safety, language and climbing technique. No experience is necessary although indoor climbing experience is helpful; see Rec and Park Spring Rock Climbing Camps for indoor rock climbing programs. This is a beginning rock climbing class. Participants are required to bring lunch, snacks, water, warm clothing, and walking shoes. This class will be cancelled if rain is forecasted.

Outdoor Recreation – Youth, Tweens, & Teens – Camping at big Basin Redwoods

Get OUT and play! Participate in these active, outdoor programs and learn about the world around you.We will provide transportation to Big Basin State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We will be hiking to waterfalls and practicing archery in the awe-inspiring ancient coast redwood forest amongst some of the oldest trees on earth. We may see many creatures like: newts, salamanders, banana slugs, mice, hawks, cotton tail bunnies, foxes, bobcats, owls and deer. In the old growth wilderness we will be sticking together in small groups to insure safety and to practice team building. We will be sharing responsibilities like cooking and cleaning. All Camping gear will be provided. Skills taught include packing, setting up camp, cooking, fire starting, camping etiquette, Slack Lining, GPS Training, Compass and Topo Map Skills will have fun learning about edible plants, water collection, tracking wild animal footprints and scat and possibly building an emergency shelter. A one-hour orientation for the camping trip will be held one week prior to trip on May 8th at 6pm at Richmond Rec.

Kids will learn movements taken from various traditional and functional martial arts. This class DOES NOT teach fighting techniques or combat. Little Kickers will provide young participants basic knowledge and the foundation to grow in martial arts. This class is perfect for tots who want to be exposed to different movements other than in mainstream sports.

Volleyball – Girls – Advanced Volleyball

Learn to set, assist and block. Approach the net and spike that ball! Please wear t-shirts or short sleeves and shorts. If participant has own knee guards, please bring them.The class will cover the fundamentals of volleyball (serving, passing, setting and spiking), along with rotation, and blocking coverage, offensive and defense strategy. Using drills and live scrimmage to improve the athlete’s skill level. The class will cover dynamic warm up, three (3) approaches, three (3) sets block, warm up serves between 5 and 10 minutes, 100 perfect passes to target, hitting lines and scrimmage.

Outdoor Recreation – All Ages – Duxbury Reef Tide Pooling

From one of our recreation centers We will provide transportation to Bolinas then conduct a short hike to Duxbury Reef. We will explore and identify the sea life and shells that we find in the tide pools at low tide, we will learn about the tides and what causes them and identify animals and birds that we see on our trip. Playing on the beach in the shallow surf will be permitted. Participants are required to bring a Backpack, 1 liter water, healthy lunch, snacks, warm clothes in layers and swim gear, walking shoes, water shoes, rain gear and umbrella if rain is forecasted. Dry change of clothes is needed. Camera Recommended. Distance of hike is approximately half a mile. Heavy Rain will cancel this class.

Outdoor Recreation – All Ages – Cataract Falls to Stinson Beach – Day Hike

We will provide transportation from Richmond Rec to the base of the Falls at Alpine Lake. Cataract Falls is a world class waterfall in West Marin. We will be identifying wild animal footprints and scat, water collection, edible plants, GPS Training, Compass/Topo Map Skills, and Wilderness Skills. The hike up to the waterfall is more than 800 vertical feet through a beautiful canyon. We will have lunch atop the hill in an oak forest with picnic tables. A short walk will bring us to the top of Bolinas Ridge with an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, Stinson Beach, Bolinas Lagoon and the San Andres Fault. We begin our descent through the hills down to the beach. With time permitting we plan to enjoy the beach before returning to Richmond Rec for a 5pm pick up. Participants are required to bring 1 liter of water, healthy lunch, snacks, warm clothing, swim gear, hiking shoes, sandals/flip flops & rain gear if rain is forecasted. If heavy rains are expected this trip will be cancelled.

Tot Picasso – Ages 2 – 5 years

Come experience art where making a mess is part of the process. The emphasis is on process rather than product. Projects are age appropriate with children having the freedom to explore materials at their own pace and in their own way. Class ends on a musical note. Adult participation required.
