Find activities and programs for all ages at this full-service Rec Center in the Marina District. The popular facility includes an indoor gym, community rooms, two play areas, a basketball court, two tennis courts, four ball diamonds, a putting green and fully renovated playground.

Local legend has it that Joe DiMaggio took Marilyn Monroe for a stroll in this park just hours before they tied the knot at City Hall. Formerly known as Funston Park, it was renamed for Mayor Moscone, who was assassinated in 1978.

This is the third Stepping Stone. Children will grow and explore essential social, cognitive and physical skills in a dynamic and creative setting. Children begin an awareness of the alphabet, colors, and number concepts in a supportive environment. 2-4 hours of classroom volunteering per session is required by the guardian, along with taking a turn providing snack. If your child is not potty-trained, the caretaker must stay throughout the duration of each class. At the Moscone location, parents or caregivers must always stay with their child at all classes.

The caregiver must stay with the child during the duration of this class at this location. No class 4/1. 2-4 hours of classroom volunteering per session is required by the guardian, along with taking a turn providing snack. If your child is not potty-trained, the caretaker must stay throughout the duration of each class.

Facility FAQ

About the Facility: The building has three classrooms that are used for ceramics, yoga, early childhood development, senior, dance and more. We also have a gym, stage and kitchen. Our outdoor amenities consist of  four tennis courts, two outdoor basketball courts, three softball fields, one baseball diamond, a putting green and children’s play ground.

Renting the Facility: The community room, gym and outside areas are available for rental through our permits and reservations office. You can contact them by calling 415-831-6800.

Directions: The recreation center is located at 1800 Chestnut Street at corner of Buchannan Street.
