Minnie and Lovie Ward Recreation Center Park

Choose from a wide selection of programs and classes at this sparkling new Recreation Center. The renovated building includes a gymnasium, community room, teen center, multipurpose rooms, arts and crafts room, preschool, kitchen and weight room. A large central courtyard provides additional gathering space. The Rec Center shares a 10-acre park with baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts. The play structures, entry plaza, picnic and BBQ areas, and paths have also been upgraded.

This class will provide activities to help tots gain the confidence to be ready for school. We will explore concepts and skills, such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes counting, graphing, patterning, and more in a non-competitive, supportive enviroment. Minimal Adult Participation(2 hours of classroom volunteering per session is required). Please note: Child must be potty trained.

Karate originated in the Okinawan Islands of Japan and has branched out into many different styles. Karate Kidz is a structured class that teaches formalized, sequenced movements which represent offensive and defensive postures known as Kata.

Students will also learn kicking, punching, blocking and other open hand techniques.

Drop in fee at this location only is $10/class.

Classes for mature adults, designed to promote general health and fitness through various types of physical exercise.

A total body workout, regardless of fitness level. These exercises are designed to increase flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. The workout is a combination of aerobic, flexibility and resistance (strength) training, all done in a fun-filled environment! Intergenerational program: those 18 and over welcomed to join this course as well.

Digital Arts & New Media – Youth, Tweens & Teens 11:00 am 1:00 pm Teens Exploring Digital Photography Art Room Digital & Visual Arts 04/12 05/10

This program provides encouragement for youth ages 13-18 to explore and photograph scenes that depict a unique and insightful perspective of their own lives in their world as they see it. With point and shoot cameras in hand, students will discover new and creative outlets to express themselves as they make memorable photographs. This is a hands-on class dedicated to understanding the basic principles of composition and digital photography. Digital cameras will be provided in class. Bring your creative ideas and lots of imagination! No class on 4/19.

About the Facility: One of the best views of city! You have to climb up big hills to reach this location, but once you do, you'll be rewarded with a 360 degree view of San Francisco. This facility includes a indoor basketball gym, weight room, the arts & crafts room, community room, kitchen along with outdoor basketball and tennis courts huge soccer and baseball field, play structure, and the big slide.

Renting the Facility: The facility is available for rental through our permits and reservations office. You can contact them by calling 415-831-6800.

Directions: The recreation center is located at 650 Capitol Ave between Minerva St & Montana St.

Bus Routes:  M-Ocean View: Plymouth and Broad stop; walk two short blocks north on Plymouth to Lobos St. and the park. ALSO: Plymouth and Capitol stop; walk two short blocks north on Capitol to Lobos St. and the park.
