Harvey Milk Rec Center

Established in the early 1940’s, The San Francisco Photography Center is the oldest public darkroom in the United States. Moved to the Harvey Milk Recreation Center in 1957. The Photo Center has been a cornerstone of arts programming almost since the building’s inception.

Our members enjoy full use of the very large darkroom and film processing areas, at extremely reasonable prices. Offering a wide variety of weekly classes and Saturday workshops and orientations in both film and digital photography, and open to anyone interested in photography regardless of experience.

The SF Photo Center is continuing to improve and expand its’ facilities, and the scope of its unique program offerings, gallery and ongoing exhibits which showcases the wide creative talents and unique viewpoints of our members.

All of these engaging, fun classes, and programs are offered to the public, and can be taken from teens to adults. Photo Center classes are taught by working professionals within the industry, in both fine arts and commercial photography.
