After nearly 60 years of serving one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in San Francisco, Chinese Recreation Center recently underwent a major renovation, that transformed the center into a state-of-the-art recreation destination. The center is now open to the public.

A variety of courses designed for the more mature adult. It’s great exercise and a lot of fun. Improves posture, balance and flexibility through basic dance movement and routines.

Learn and improve your ballroom dancing skills in a social setting. Bring your dance partner and give it a whirl! This is an instructional class. No drop-ins.

Participate in this game of Chinese origin usually played by four persons with tiles resembling dominoes and bearing various designs, which are drawn and discarded until one player wins with a hand of four combinations of three tiles each and a pair of matching tiles. Material will be provided.

This class is a pre-requisite for Beginning Chinese Folk Dance. Students are introduced to the art of Chinese Folk Dance for the first time. Students will learn the basic positions and skills needed to execute a variety of historical and contemporary Chinese Folk Dances. GIRLS ONLY. Instruction is in Cantonese. PLEASE NOTE: The class requires an additional $40 cost for costumes for performances. Please see the instructor to purchase costumes on the first day of class

About the Facility:

The Betty Ann Ong Chinese Recreation Center has recently reopened. Renovations include upgrading the indoor basketball court, weight room the children's play area, and the pathways. 2 Basketball Courts, 2 Kitchens, Multi-Purpose Room/Auditorium, 1 Playground, Recreation Center/Gym, 5 Restrooms, and Ping Pong Table

Renting the Facility:

The multipurpose room and auditorium is available for rental through our permits and reservations office. You can contact them by calling 415-831-6800.

Directions: The recreation center is located at 1199 Mason St. at Washington St

Bus Routes:  Powell-Hyde Cable Car -- Mason and Washington stop.
