Habitat Restoration

Areas found within thirty-seven parks are designated as “Natural Areas” because they contain significant remnants of San Francisco’s natural heritage. These areas are generally unlandscaped and require habitat restoration to preserve the wealth of native plants and animals found in these parklands. Habitat restoration volunteers may participate in a wide variety of activities, including removing invasive weeds, propagating native plants in the nursery, controlling erosion, planting and monitoring. Volunteer opportunities are available on a one-time or ongoing basis, for groups and individuals, during the week and on the weekends. Check out the volunteer event calendar to sign up for a project! If you have 5 or more people, contact us to organize a project for your group!
