Park Closure

The middle section of Garfield Square will be closed to the public. During construction temporary toilets will be provided near the park entrance at the corner of 25th Street and Harrison Street. Soccer Fields, Children's Play Area, and the 26th Street Lawn will remain open during construction.

Site Description

Garfield Square is located at Harrison and 26th Streets'. The park is approximately 169,000 square feet and has: 

  • Children's play area
  • Landscaping
  • Picnic area
  • A pool building and adjacent club house
  • Related amenities
  • Sport courts
  • Synthetic fields for soccer

Project Scope

The proposed project scope includes a full renovation of the existing pool building, and the demolition and replacement of the adjacent clubhouse building. The newly reconfigured recreation center will include a shared entry lobby to access the pool facility and clubhouse, a new multi-purpose courtyard, improved park accessibility, and new landscaping.

Proposed Budget

$19.7 million total budget. The project is funded by the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks GO Bond at $11 million, and IPIC Eastern Neighborhood Impact Fees at $8.7 million.

Proposed Schedule

The renovation will begin in late October/early November 2018 and take approximately 18 months to complete.
